GREETINGS FROM CARTOONIA AT THE 6th INTERNATIONAL COMICS FESTIVAL BEJA / PORTUGAL
Between 29th May and 13th June the international cartoon festival will once again turn BEJA into a Portuguese comics capital, there will be well known authors present as well as some freshly baked talents. After the international comics festival in Amadora, the festival in Beja is the second biggest of this kind in Portugal.
Besides the exhibitions there will be much of interesting things going on: presentations of various projects, conferences, shows, presentations of new book editions, signing sessions, film projections,
workshops etc.
An eclectic festival that turns to all kinds of public will show many directions that can be felt in the field of the contemporary comics.
STRIPBURGER will participate at the festival with the international project GREETINGS FROM CARTOONIA, and will be represented by JAKOB KLEMENCIC. Artists on the exhibition: Andrea Bruno (IT), Bendik Kaltenborn (NO), Mateusz Skutnik (PL), Jyrkki Heikkinen (FI), Matei Branea (RO), Filipe Abranches (PT), Marko Kociper, Jakob Klemencic, Kaja Avbersek, Matej Stupica, Matej Lavrencic, Gasper Rus.

OPEN COMPETITION FOR
8th Comic Showroom VELES 2010
Propositions:
- Participation is open to all comic works artists from all over the world.
- Comic works entries can be from 1 to 6 pages long, and must be sent in A4 format (21x29, 7cm). Send only good print copy (300 dpi), the comic works will not be returned!
- Each author from their will create comic works, at most 14 picture .Theme is free
- Comic works will be to send through post and e-mail.
- The text for the comic works can be on: Macedonian language (for the Macedonian authors), English, or one of the languages from EX JY countries (for the authors from these countries).
- Each artist (scenario, pencils, inks, color…) can take part with only one comic works.
- The comic works entries can be submitted by more than one artist (but please specify who does what: scenario, pencils, inks, color...).
- Each participant must send: photography, short biography along with personal address, telephone, e-mail and the year when the comic works is made. Without this the submission will not be considered.
- All submitted comic works will be represented properly and will take part on the Showroom in Veles, and other really possibilities for promotion.
- The best comic works will be selected by three member jury, which will give following awards:
1st award: 200 EY,“The Golden Comic works”, logo and diploma
2nd and 3rd award a diploma.
Best scenario (script) award a diploma
Award for the youngest author –a diploma
Award up to 18 years - a diploma
The deadline for entries is September 25, 2010 y.

22 Oct – Friday, Event will start off with the registration, then the instructors introduction followed by a few demos and surprises(cough Steambot SPARK! cough,you didn’t hear it from me), all ending with a big party till early morning.
23, 24 Oct - You will be in for one of the most brain melting weekends with demos from our instructors, on all levels of concept art: character, creature, environment, props and more,PLUS! real life inspiration from weapons, robotics, to architecture.The guys from Steambot will take you through their process of speedpainting and other new steampainting tehniques from characters to environments.Stephan Martiniere will keep you holding your breath while he takes you through the process and thoughts behind his amazing works.Kekai will kick ass developing his illustrations and character design with ease of a master while Mark Goerner will teach you how to create the best concept art from life!And im not mentioning nothing about the others …
25 Oct - Last day of the event well have demos(jawbreaks) followed by the precious portfolio reviews from the instructors.Bring your best work!youll certainly find out your strengths and weaknesses from these guys. Then you will take the inspiration and knowledge gathered here to create better art!
Location
The Ark is a symbol of the reborn Bucharest, a monument building from 1898 which is part of an urban complex of the former industrial era. It is the creation of famous Romanian engineer Anghel Saligny and Italian architect Giuglio Magni. It has been abandoned during the communist period and now it has been saved from collapse, and retrofitted into a contemporary fresh, multifunctional space. At the time of its construction, the building was a symbol of the connection between the Romanian and the European economy. Now it will once again be the symbol of connection, between artists around the world, gathering under one roof, with the purpose of taking their art further and making friends along the way.

Nu exista o versiune in limba romana. Cred ca ar fi fost un efort suplimentar la care s-a renuntat din ratiuni "economice". Mi-e teama ca in fapt nu i s-a dat prea multa importanta, dintr-un cosmopolitism "zonal" 
Titlul, BEHIND THE IRON CURTAIN, cred ca se refera mai degraba la o atitudine estetica, la un melting pot in care mai tinerii artisti amesteca ingrediente prea incarcate istoric pentru altii. Altfel pare un titlu defazat istoric. Artistii care vin la Bucuresti trece printr-o usoara perdea de praf de oxid de fier
